Featured Book: Be Authentic by Warren W. Wiersbe

Given the opportunity to review a Bible commentary by Warren Wiersbe, I jumped on the chance. I've read his commentaries off and on for the past 20+ years and always find them though-provoking, leading me into a deeper understanding of God's Word.

Be Authentic is no different. It's actually one in a series of 50 Be books that are currently being re-released. This one focuses on the latter portion of Genesis, on the stories of Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, in particular, and the examples of authentic relationships with God they provide. I've always loved the story of Joseph and have been familiar with Jacob, but I'd never considered Isaac in the manner in which Dr. Wiersbe positions him -- "the son of a famous father (Abraham) and the father of a famous son (Jacob)". Why these men and what does it mean to be "authentic"?

Authentic people, as defined by Dr. Wiersbe, are "people with direct firsthand experienc, people who make mistakes but don't accept any mistake as final...people who will dare to have firsthand spiritual experiences in life and not settle for the secondhand imitations that are promised if you listen to the right seminars, watch the right videos, and attend the right meetings."
